Paranormal Investigating, professionally, is a technical business involving experience and equipment as well as an investigative (nosey) flare. The technology involved is developing continuously. Our equipment list below is certainly, by no means, exhaustive and is only the very basic requirements for conducting a paranormal investigation. At Intel Investigations we carry out several checks prior to any vigil being carried out.

At Intel Investigations we carry out several checks prior to any vigil being carried out.
Background Research
Many groups will oft promise their hosts never to undertake background research and therefore scupper mediums "so called evidence". We believe in being upfront. For starters, many haunted sites are well known throughout the industry and therefore a group will already know a lot of information about the site but will not let that fact be known. Secondly we find that to carry out successful vigils and capture phenomena on tape it is better to have prior knowledge of suspected area's and possible causes prior to the vigil. Scrutinising your evidence is far better than Bull Sitting your Hosts.
We carry out a thorough background investigation on your haunted location; this provides a skeletal print of activity that may be located there.
Interviews
We conduct an informal interview of those situated on location. This helps provide any indication of the type of phenomena to expect and background on where and when the phenomena takes place. It also helps to ascertain your specific requirements and any concerns and fears that you may have prior to our full investigation.
Preliminary Investigation
We carry out a preliminary daytime investigation usually a few hours before the main investigation takes place. We test our equipment and take readings for electromagnetic fluctuations, Ion counts, temperature readings as well a visual checks for possible noise occurrences amongst other things, like setting up CCTV.
Camcorder - Camcorders come in all shapes and sizes but you will need one that works in the dark. Night shot is the basic essential (sometimes called zero lux) and one that has the facility of a high power beam. You should well be looking at one that digitally records. You could well do with a few of these, the more the merrier as more footage not only shows up irregularities, comparisons and more phenomena but you can also set one up in a locked room as a “stand alone”. Don’t forget your tripod.
Thermometers – You need at least three thermometers, two that records temperature inside and/or outside and a hydro thermometer. Hydro Thermometers test temperature and humidity simultaneously. Inside/Outside thermometers come as either thermocouples that read temperature with a probe and are connected to a reader or a pc, or Infra Red that sends a beam from a device and records the temperature of the surface it is pointing at.
Digital Voice Recorders – These are ideal for recording EVP (electronic voice phenomena) and come in multitude of makes and models. They can be used in a séance or used in a locked off room. Analogue tape Dictaphones are brilliant for recording events as they happen and I recommend everyone in the group carry one.
Other Kit - Trigger Objects, Dowsing Rods, Candles, Flour, Watch, Torch, Two-Way Radios, Night Vision Scope, Notebook and Pencils, First Aid Kit.
Specialist Equipment - Thermal Imaging, Ultra Violet Camera, Negative Ion Detectors NIDS, Electro-Static Detectors, Ultrasonic Meter, Infrasound System, Laptop, CCTV with Digital Recorder 4way minimum.
Always conduct yourselves in a courteous, polite and professional manner.
Be Prepared

Respect your hosts at all times.
Involve your hosts as much as possible.
Always conduct a thorough background check before doing an investigation.
Don’t assume you can stay all night, remember to book your accommodation in advance.
Make sure all your equipment has been checked and is working correctly.
Check your equipment again.
Carry spare batteries for everything that requires it.
Never discuss your investigations outside of your working party.
Never prime your investigation team prior to the investigation. Keep information to a Need to Know Basis.
Do not smoke, drink or take drugs on or before an investigation.
Always ensure there are at least two persons at any location at any one time.
Don’t forget to check your equipment before your investigation.
When jotting notes, remember to include time and location of each event that happens.
If something stops working, tell someone about it.
Carry identification with you at all times, this is especially necessary if carrying out vigils outdoors.
Always ask the permission of the location owner before carrying out an investigation.
Always tell someone who is not on investigation where the party is and give them an itinerary of events.
Collate all information gathered after the vigil and debrief.
You didn’t forget to check your equipment did you? Shame on you!
